Who I work with

iPhone app development for small and medium businesses

If you run a small or medium business and are wondering whether an iPhone app is worth it, I can help you answer that honestly, then build it if it makes sense. You work with one senior developer from the first conversation to the App Store and the years after launch, without an agency layer in between.

Is an app worth it for your business?

This is the first question, and the honest answer is sometimes no. A good website handles a lot. An iPhone app tends to pay off when:

  • People come back often. Repeat bookings, orders, loyalty, membership, or a tool your staff use every day.
  • It needs the phone itself. Location, camera, notifications, offline use or scanning.
  • Speed matters. A task that takes two minutes in a browser takes ten seconds in a well-made app.
  • It saves staff time. Field teams, warehouses, delivery, inspections, or sales on the road.

If none of these fit, I will tell you. Building an app nobody opens is the most expensive mistake in this business.

Start with a focused first version

The safest way to build an app is to start small. Instead of planning every feature you might ever want, we pick the few that deliver the most value and build those well. That gives you:

  • A lower first investment, with a real app in customers’ hands sooner.
  • Real feedback from real users, before you spend on features nobody asked for.
  • An app built to grow, because the architecture is planned for the next version from the start.

Price and timeline depend on what goes into that first version. Both are agreed up front, after a short discovery call or email exchange, so there are no surprises halfway through.

Why one developer instead of an agency

Typical agency setupWorking with HobbySoft
Who you talk toAccount or project managerThe engineer writing the code
Who builds itWhoever is free, sometimes subcontractedOne senior iOS developer
Feedback loopRelayed through several peopleDirect, with regular TestFlight builds
After launchOften a new team or a new contractThe same person who built it, if you want

I take on a small number of projects at a time, so yours gets real attention. Larger agencies suit some businesses, especially when you need many disciplines at once. If your main need is a well-built iPhone or iPad app, one accountable developer usually means less overhead and fewer things lost in translation.

Concerns small businesses raise, answered plainly

“I am not technical. Will I understand what is happening?”

Yes. I explain decisions in business terms, and you install real builds through TestFlight on your own iPhone throughout the project. Progress is something you can tap, not a status report.

“What if it goes wrong?”

The biggest risks are building the wrong thing and building it badly. Discovery and a focused first version address the first. Almost 15 years building for Apple platforms, with commercial apps shipped in telecom, logistics, social networks, health and fitness, and CRM, address the second.

“What about after launch?”

Apps need care: a new iOS every year, App Store requirements that change, and features your customers will ask for. I can stay on for release and maintenance, or hand over to another developer with clean, documented code.

“We already have an app, and it is a mess”

That is common, especially after a previous developer moved on. See app rescue and modernization.

Proof you can install today

My own apps show how I work, and you can try them:

  • Fokus Zone: an iPhone app blocker that switches on by schedule or by location, with a free tier and a Premium subscription. All data stays on the device.
  • My Disc Golf: an iPhone and iPad app live since 2021, in 18 languages, still maintained and updated.

More detail on the build side is on the iPhone and iPad app development page.

How to get started

  1. Email contact@hobbysoft.pro with a few sentences: what your business does, what you want the app to do, and who would use it.
  2. We have a short call or email exchange to understand the goal and the risks.
  3. I propose a focused first version with scope and estimate. You decide, with no obligation.

FAQ

Questions and answers

Does my small business need an app?

Not always. An app is worth it when customers or staff use it repeatedly and it does something a website cannot do as well, such as working offline, using location, sending timely notifications or speeding up a daily task.

How much does an app for a small business cost?

It depends on what the app needs to do and what it connects to. After a short discovery call or email exchange I propose a scope and an estimate, and we agree both before any build work starts.

Who owns the app and the code?

Ownership is agreed in writing before work starts. The code repository and the Apple Developer account can be set up under your business from day one, so the app stays yours.

What happens if you are unavailable later?

The code is written and documented so another iOS developer can pick it up, and everything lives in accounts you control. That is deliberate, because depending on one person should never mean being locked in.

Have an app in mind? Let’s ship it.

I take on a small number of projects at a time and stay with them to the finish: one accountable developer, an EU company with clear invoicing, and support long after launch.
